Former President Kgalema Motlanthe says the ongoing conflict in Ethiopia’s Tigray region could have been avoided. Speaking after the conferment of his honorary doctorate by the Tshwane University of Technology, Motlanthe says stakeholders were encouraged to open dialogue to try to iron out critical issues. The Tigray People’s Liberation Front claims the federal government has marginalised them. Motlanthe was once assigned by the African Union to bring warring parties together.
