On October 25, Nigeria officially launched its digital currency, the eNaira.
The Central Bank Of Nigeria says Nigerians should embrace the new currency because it has the same value as the physical Naira and guarantees simple, safe, fast transfers /payments anytime, anywhere since it is digital, borderless, and with more possibilities.
On Tuesday, more than 100,000 downloads were recorded.
But a few hours later, the app earned a lot of negative reviews both on google play store {Android} and app store {iPhone} as enthusiasts say they couldn’t sign up. This has generated not-so-pleasant narratives.
Gist Nigeria explores the many sides of the eNaira since its launch, how it works, and the sustainability of the digital currency in the country.
