After watching their agistment business disintegrate during the drought, Nicky and Ben Dobson became disability service providers. Their farm is now an inclusive, safe place for clients to learn new skills. They have 90 visitors a week and no place or task is off limits on their 42 hectare property.

For Katherine Henson and her two boys, the farm has been a breath of fresh air.

“My two boys come here, one is severely autistic and the other has an intellectual impairment so we like to call this our nonjudgement zone we walk through the gate and it doesn’t matter if there’s a melt down or bad behaviour or what’s viewed as bad behaviour they’re just loved for who they are or where they’re at so as a mum it’s an amazing place to find.

December 3 is the United Nations’ International Day for People with Disability (IDPwD), a day to increase awareness, understanding, and acceptance of people with disability. With more than 4 million Australians living with disability, having just one day to explore the range of stories from all over the country is just not enough.

The ABC is partnering with International Day of People with Disability (add link: www.abc.net.au/idpwd ) in a three-week campaign to showcase a range of stories by and about people with disability across ABC websites, radio, social media, TV, and iview.
